Race
Summary:
That
was a close one! I believe this may have just been one of the
closest races in the history of our racing league! We had the top 37 teams
within 22 points of each other; the top 26 teams within a 12 point spread; and
the top ten race lineups were only separated by 4 points. It's kind of
nice to see some good lineups and close racing for a change. Lately it
seems like there has always been one or two popular drivers with bad luck,
causing some extremes in the lineup totals. Of course, that's great if you
don't have those drivers (and everyone else does), but eventually what goes
around, comes around! Close racing like this week is a lot of fun, but
it's sure hard to make any progress in the season standings when points are so
tight. It's a slow climb to the top for some. Rest assured, there
will be more bad luck (accidents, engines, etc.) that will befall the popular
drivers throughout the rest of the season... here's hoping they're not in your
lineup when that happens!
No
winners this week The categories were all pretty ugly this week
again. In fact, not a single team had the race winner, Jeff Burton, in
their lineup. The top 5's and top 10's were much more impressive. A
few lucky teams managed to get two drivers into the top 5, and even fewer lucky
teams got 3 drivers in the top 10. Usually when you see those kind of
numbers in the categories, you would expect lineup totals in the 50's and
60's. Oddly enough, we actually had several teams with 30 or less points.
Tough-luck
Trophy This week I'm awarding a tough-luck trophy to a couple
teams, Razor X and 00Bullet. For the most part, the league stayed away
from disastrous drivers finishing outside the top 20 this week. Like I
said, though... for the MOST part. Two teams determined to break the mold
and go for the gold, ended up with a big chunk of coal in their Christmas
stocking. I have to commend their creativity, though, because they each
did it a different way. Razor X fell victim to Vickers 39th place finish
(always a nice little boost to the lineup score!) while 00Bullet decided to take
the plunge with Mears and a 42nd place finish. Due to some points
separation in the season standings, 00Bullet only lost one position while Razor
X felt the burn by dropping 11 spots.
Bouncing
Brick Part III This team is just like the "Rocky" movies
- sequel after sequel. Brickman has had quite the up and down (and up and
down and up) season so far. Currently the Brick-meister has settled at the
6th spot on the season after a nice 3rd place race lineup. Here's hoping
your cycle ends on a high note and not a low one!
Taking
a break After several intense weeks at the track, we get a week off
to lick our wounds and heal up. One team that is probably enjoying the
break more so than the rest of us is MK17 Racing. This teams turned in a
23rd place lineup last race, which usually spells doom for the leader.
However, with the lineups being so close plus the fact the MK17 had a nice lead
built up plus the fact that second place had some bad luck, MK17 not only
retains the #1 spot atop the season standings, but still has a 12 point lead
over second place. Things are still fairly competitive at the top with the
top 4 places within 18 points of the leader. The rest of the pack seems to
be losing the draft a little, though, with 5th place 27 back and 6th place 40
back, then there's a whole pack of teams in the 50's and 60's just waiting for
the top teams to tangle up so they can take advantage. Lots can happen in
one race!
Race On!
