Race
Summary:
Let
the games begin Well, we're off into the 2008 season! We have
a record number of teams this year, but we'll have to see who has the guts to
stick it out. We had a rash of people join at the last second and were too
late to enter a lineup for Daytona. I really hope they hang in there,
because 144 points back is nothing - especially when you consider that we've
still got 35 races to go. Do the math and that figures up to be under 5
points per race they have to gain on average to get in front... very
do-able. Other teams miss races throughout the year sometimes, too.
If everyone makes it to the last lap, we'll have - count 'em - 59 teams
this year!
Welcome
and Welcome Back I would like to extend a big welcome to all the
new teams this year! Whether you joined anonymously or through a
recommendation, we are certainly happy to have you! I would also like to
welcome BACK all the returning league "veterans". There are a
lot of familiar names out there, and I'm happy to see so many back for the
action this year. I hope that's a testament as to how much fun you had
last year... and maybe a renewal of some rivalries from years past!
Overall, it's incredible to have all of you participating this season! I
can't imagine how tight the competition is going to be this year with almost
twice the size of the league.
Rough
Start Daytona wasn't pretty this year, but it still wasn't as ugly
as last year when only two teams made it out with lineups under the century
mark. This year, we had a whole passel of teams with 78+ points... mostly
thanks to the Jeff Gordon & Jimmie Johnson mishaps. The most popular
lineup this week was certainly the 48, 24, 88, 20 roster that performed a little
under-average.
Something Fishy?
I have to admit it looks pretty suspicious when the league administrator takes
first place the first week out. It's a good thing the lineups were locked
down nearly two hours before the green flag actually flew this week. You
can check lineups and see who everyone has before the race even starts... and
those lineups are locked in. To any disgruntled teams: it could have been
worse... I actually had Reed Sorenson in my lineup instead of Carl Edwards
originally, but switched about an hour before the deadline because I just wasn't
confident about Reed even though he had great practice lap times and seemed to
have a great car.
Newman pulls it off
Ryan Newman finally proved that he can win more than qualifying! Mr. Pole
Position hit the checkers first, much to the joy of Hot Rod Wildcat & Razor
X. These were to only two teams to select the Boilermaker this week.
I couldn't resist putting a little plug in for Purdue since my wife is from
Indiana and graduated from Purdue. If the #12 didn't come through at
Daytona, I was going to call that selection my wife's idea... ha ha ha.
Next Up... This
week we're off to California for some fun in the sun! Get those lineups in
early. You can always change your lineup right up until the
deadline. Believe me, it's better than getting a 176 for the race!!!
Good Luck to everyone this week!
