Race
Summary:
After a
week of changing, the top 5 remained rock solid after this week's race.
Not the same can be said about the rest of the field, though. Anyone who
thinks it's too late in the season to make a comeback from the bottom needs to
take a good look at the season standings - things are still close enough that we
have teams making considerable gains with a good lineup. If you're toward
the bottom of the standings, keep fighting and researching those good selections
- you could easily gain 10 spots in a couple weeks with a few good lineups!
This week,
everyone had at least one driver in the top 10 on their roster. Well,
everyone that submitted a lineup. I don't know if racinboys forgot it was
a Saturday race or what, but we had a no-show for this race. That gives
MonkeyMan a little cushion away from the bottom spot in the league, now.
VILME also had an empty position in the roster that added an automatic 44
points. Off Constantly also creeps back down the standings thanks to an 88
point roster, mostly due to an unfortunate finish by Scott Riggs. At the
other end of the standings, race junky had the 12th place lineup for the race,
but still managed to tack on a couple more points distance between 1st and 2nd
with dirty duck having a 14th place race lineup. When the top teams in the
season aren't the top teams for the race, that means that the season standings
are getting even tighter. And less points between teams means it's a lot
easier to gain/lose spots. However, right now 4th place is 75 points back
from the leader - but add another 75 points and we're past 17th place!
That means you have a pretty good shot at making nice gains in the season
standings with good lineups, but the very top spots - the top 5 - will take some
consistency to crack. Good luck - the top 5 have been pretty steady all
season long and don't show many signs of stumbling.
Back in
the top 10 this week is Rocketman. 10th through 17th place did an
interesting swap - with 10-13 gaining 1,2,3, & 4 spots and then 14-17 losing
4,3,2, &1 spots. KB GB Racing and Speed Junkie made the biggest gains
this week, both up 4 positions. Off Constantly dropped the farthest, down
5, but can't be criticized too much - look at the number of winners he has
picked!
Team
Recognition:
Sorry,
these awards aren't worth anything but bragging rights!
The GOLD
Helmet this week goes to KB GB Racing for selecting Bobby Labonte. Bobby
had a great race and was certainly a great selection for Phoenix. KB GB
Racing was the only team to pick Labonte, who qualified in the 26th position.
The SILVER
Steering Wheel Award goes to KB GB Racing, Spanky, Speedracer, and Texas Bitch
for having 3 drivers in the top 10 in their lineups this week. That's the
kind of lineups that will get you to the top, keep up the good picks!
The BRONZE
Burnout Award goes to Hot Rod Wildcat, MonkeyMan, McCurdy Racing, VILME, &
Off Constantly for selecting Jeff Gordon - the winner at Phoenix.
The GOLDEN
Dipstick Award goes to racinboys for the no-show. That's gonna hurt.
But we're only 8 races into a 36 race season, so it won't be impossible to
overcome, but just ask Mark Martin how tough it is to compete for the
championship when you miss races...
Next week
is Talladega!
