Race
Summary:
What a
MESS! Typical Daytona though, 150 laps of hum-drum followed by 50 laps
(plus a couple extra this time) of chaos! We had a lot of lineups that
were looking great with even better potential, but that all ended when Stewart
and Busch decided to collect each other. My condolences to Budman,
Cattleman, Hotrod, KB GB Racing, Queen B, racinboys, The Intimidator, &
Whitetrash who lost half their lineup with Tony and Kurt going out. Help
was on the way, however, because with the lineup luck of the rest of us, season
points are still a lot closer than they could have been!
Team
Recognition:
Sorry,
these awards aren't worth anything but bragging rights!
The GOLD
Helmet is an award that goes to a unique wise (or just lucky) lineup selection
that turns out great. This week it goes out to the lucky duck of the league -
dirty duck - for being the ONLY team not to select Tony Stewart.
The SILVER
Steering Wheel Award is an award given to those who select a driver that
qualified good but is not a favorite for the race, and ends up finishing
good. This one goes to MonkeyMan - the only one to go with
Gilliland. Everyone avoided the pole-setter, except MonkeyMan, who was
rewarded with an 8th place finishing driver! Honorable Mention selection
goes to 4U2Envy for being the only one to pick Burton and get a 3rd place
finish. There were several other top 10 single-selections. That's a
good way to move up in the fantasy leagues - pick drivers that few other
select. It can make you look like a genius when things work out!
The BRONZE
Burnout Award is an award given to those selecting a low qualifying driver that
finishes great. This week it goes to dirty duck and JTC & The Boys who
selected Harvick, who wasn't really much of a factor the entire race but hung
around and was in the right spot at the right time to collect the victory.
The GOLDEN
Dipstick Award is an award given to those unlucky lineups that bottomed-out for
one reason or another. It can also be given out if a team drops like a
rock in the season standings from one week to the next. This week
Cattleman gets this award for an extremely unlucky lineup of Dale Jr., Tony
Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, & Kurt Busch. Certainly an impressive lineup
until lap 153!
Season
Discussion:
Well,
we've started off with quite a spread of points! If someone would have
told me we would have a 122 point lineup the first race... and still be in the
top 10, I would have thought they were crazy! Dirty duck and JTC & The
Boys have set the bar and began to separate a little from the rest of the
league. With a whole slew of us about 50-60 points back, all it will take
is a little luck to get back in the hunt. The bottom of the league will
need some good picks to recover from their Daytona Debacle. Cattleman
might want to make sure all the gates are closed and the fences mended before
the next race, because if things get loose again it could be a long season!
There are
quite a few more races left and plenty of time for everyone. But remember
that with salaries starting to adjust, the lineup selection process will start
getting a little more difficult. But not yet - I don't see it being too
much of a factor with so many big names finishing so bad. Since the
salaries are based in part by points, you may still be able to afford all your
favorite drivers for a few more races.
